The assessment for this module is a 4,000 word written project submission, the title to be agreed as part of the learning contract and will reflect the topic area identified for exploration.

Introduction

On successful completion of this 20 credit level 6 (UZVREM-20-3) or level 7 (UZYRLC-20-M) Allied Health Professions (AHP) Independent Study module, you will be able to:

  • Engage in critical discussion on a range of theories related to the knowledge base of an aspect of practice identified for exploration.
  • Articulate a consistent theoretical position in which to locate ideas and/or views related to the identified aspect of practice.
  • Critically engage with debates in relation to ways in which your own practice can be enhanced, improved, or maintained and demonstrate ways in which this might be generalised to the benefit of the client/patient group.
  • Evaluate your own practice.

Learning and Teaching

Scheduled learning
Includes direct supervision on the project. Scheduled learning consists of an initial meeting to identify project goals, the development of a learning contract and the arrangement of periodic tutorials to feedback on progress, discussion of the material under review and the structure and planning of the assignment. Later sessions might include feedback on sections of writing and specific guidance on style and structure as well as content.

A learning contract will be negotiated between the you and a member of academic staff from which a programme of study will be agreed.

Independent learning
Includes hours engaged with essential reading, relevant study day/course attendance, assignment preparation and completion etc.
