Assessment

Assessment of this module will comprise the following:

  • a conference-style poster which critically explores an aspect of cancer care related to your practice or learning.
  • a viva consisting of a 10 minute presentation and 10 minutes question and answer session to defend your poster. 

You will have opportunity for formative support and assessment throughout the module via assignment support sessions and feedback on a presentation plan.

Content

Contemporary issues for those living with and beyond cancer will be discussed, considered and investigated. 

Drawing on clinical expertise and research, this level 7 (Masters level) module will enable you to develop your knowledge, understanding and professional practice within the speciality of oncology and beyond.

Entry Requirements

You must be working in a cancer-related field.

Introduction

This 20 credit module, Fundamentals of Cancer Care, explores the key aspects of cancer in clinical care and wider society. 

On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of cancer biology, aetiology and treatments. 
  • critically appraise the contemporary context of cancer care.    
  • critically evaluate evidence-based assessment and personalised care and support strategies for people affected by cancer across the spectrum of care.    
  • critically debate the psychosocial impact of cancer on individuals, families and society.    
  • critically reflect on your role and professional development in terms of teamwork, leadership, ethics, communication and research.    

 

Learning and Teaching

Teaching will be in the form of seminars, lectures and online activities delivered over six study days. 

Online activities will be available on Blackboard. Sessions will be facilitated by UWE Bristol cancer specialist lecturers and outside speakers from clinical practice.
