Assessment

Assessment will comprise two tasks: a presentation with critical questioning and a portfolio.

Content will typically include, but will not be limited to, service evaluation, quality improvement, promoting services, writing business cases, the importance of collecting and analysing data and outcomes and influencing others.

Delivery will be in a combination of in-person and online learning, workplace learning and self-directed study.

Introduction

This 30 credit module, Professional Development and Clinical Leadership in Cancer Care, will enable students to meet the outcomes and underpinning capabilities in the ACCEND framework, integrate all components of learning to their progression and development and engage in learning and development activities that reflect the demands of this level of learning and practice.

The module has been mapped to the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development Programme (ACCEND) Framework and will enable you to explore your role in clinical leadership in the cancer arena and critically consider the culture of continuous improvement in cancer care.

On successful completion of this level 7 (Masters level) module, you will be able to: 

  • evaluate theoretical frameworks of leadership and change management and critically appraise their relevance to your cancer care practice.
  • critically consider a culture of continuous improvement through audit, service evaluation and research.
  • critically discuss impact of teamworking on professional practice.
  • self-assess and evidence relevant capabilities in practice aligned to national cancer frameworks.
  • identify and critically apply strategies to effectively build personal resilience whist working in cancer care.

Learning and Teaching

Teaching methods will typically include, but will not be limited to, expert speakers, group work, reflection, practical activities and facilitated action learning sets and simulated practice learning. 

You will require a workplace mentor and assessor in practice.
