Assessment

There is no summative assessment for this module as it is non-credit bearing.

Formative assessment: You will have the opportunity to complete an optional multiple choice question section to demonstrate engagement with the module learning.

Those who score 75% and above will have their student record updated to reflect this, and employers will be informed if staff have successfully completed the MCQs. You are also encouraged to complete a formative portfolio during your engagement with the module to aid reflection of your own practice when supporting students in the practice environment.

Content

The module syllabus will typically cover the following:

  • Describing the role of the practice educator
  • Identifying the knowledge, skills and personal attributes of an effective practice educator
  • Applying learning theories that are appropriate for adult and professional learners
  • Planning, implementing and facilitating learning in the placement setting creating an environment for learningApplying sound principles and judgement in the assessment of performance in the placement setting
  • Evaluating learning in the practice setting
  • Reflecting on experience and formulating action plans to improve future practice

Entry Requirements

Although preferred but not essential, you should be supervising a healthcare professional student.

Introduction

The aim of the Supporting Students in Practice module is to provide practitioners from a range of professions with the knowledge and skills necessary to work with students in practice. The module combines both multi-professional and generic learning, with some profession specific content where indicated.

This module is suitable for all healthcare professionals supporting students in practice. You will be directed to profession-specific material during the module.

This module is self-directed learning which you can undertake over a period of three to four months. There are no specific times or dates to undertake this course but you must apply for a specific start date to be enrolled.

Key Facts

This course, also known by the course code UZYKFP-0-3, replaces the AHP Practice Learning and Student Support, and Nursing Facilitated Learning and Assessment in Practice (FLAP).
