The course explores the research evidence that underpins the importance of developing teacher knowledge of children's literature. The course will enable participants to develop practical skills and knowledge as well as encourage reflection on enabling children to develop as readers, who read for pleasure and purpose. Teachers will explore how they can develop as a reading teacher who teaches reading. Â
Who is it for?
For primary and early years teachers in state and private sector schools. This programme is facilitated by our Senior Lecturers in Primary Initial Teacher Education.
What do I get out of it?
During the day, you will experience first-hand practical activities that are linked to research led practice. You will have the opportunity to extend your knowledge of children's literature and to develop your approach to reading aloud. You will be supported to consider how to challenge the more able reader in your class by your text choices and approaches.

Learning and Teaching
We are flexible in our delivery. Groups can be hosted onsite in one of our teaching rooms or lecture theatres. We are also able to deliver the course in your school or setting as a series of staff meetings or an inset day. If required, this course can be delivered remotely.

The Department of Education and Childhood at UWE Bristol runs a variety of courses in early childhood and education studies, and is one of the largest providers of initial teacher training and continuing professional development in the region.
