Content

The course aims and outcomes include the following:

  • Understand core geography knowledge and skills within the context of the national curriculum.
  • Consider factors that may influence how you plan your geography curriculum.
  • Examine a framework for assessment in geography.
  • Explore a range of practical ideas for teaching high-quality geography (including some cross-curricular opportunities and fieldwork).

During the day, you will experience first-hand practical activities that are linked to research led practice and explore how to stimulate geographical learning that is relevant, authentic and progressive in order to raise the standard of teaching and learning in the subject. The session will also examine opportunities for successful fieldwork at all key stages, consider how to teach distant places and explore how picture books can support geography teaching in the primary school.

Introduction

Our Education courses are designed to help you advance your professional skills and enhance your teaching career. Geared toward practicing primary, and early years teachers, this practice-led CPD day course is the perfect deep dive into classroom geography.
